Despite the cold of winter, Ivy Academy Sanlitun carried out our kindergarten’s traditional Charity Bazaar as scheduled, sending warmth and care from our students and parents to underprivileged children far away in China’s remote mountainous areas.

This activity review is written by a parent, mother to Chloe, a student at Ivy Academy Sanlitun’s Nursery. We send a special thanks to Ivy parents for their ongoing support, especially the mother of Chloe. Your support always touches us deeply and serves as an important source of our strength and encouragement.

Walking with Love and Childlike Warmth this Winter –

Ivy Academy Sanlitun’s 2019 Charity Bazaar

By the Mother of Chloe

On the afternoon of December 13, Ivy Academy Sanlitun hosted a grand Charity Bazaar, at the center of which was a bustling second-hand toy and book marketplace. In total, the event raised 12,009 yuan and six cases of winter clothing donations, all of which will be gifted to a public benefit project focusing the on care for the healthy growth of children, sending a message of warm blessings to children far away during this cold winter.

Beginning in the late afternoon, the second-hand toy and book marketplace opened for business. Sales booths were filled with a variety of toys and books, each donated by students of Ivy Academy Sanlitun and sorted by their parents. A series of handmade artworks and biscuits, produced by our Pre-K2 and Kindergarten class students, were also for sale. All students made early preparations for the Charity Bazaar by individually labelling each commodity for sale and neatly arranging them within the charity booths, every action a demonstration of dedication and love.

The sounds of bargaining echoed throughout the Bazaar as students assumed the role of vendors, peddling goods to customers and passersby. Parents and others found time in their busy schedules to offer their support at the Bazaar, volunteering to assist students in selling commodities and making their own contributions.

The Bazaar ran for two hours, raising a combined total of 12,009 yuan, which will be donated to the XiaoJuDeng Children Rehabilitation Center in Beijing’s Changping District. Donated winter clothing will be gifted to children at the Poverty Village Kindergarten in Canglan County in Pu’er City, Yunnan Province, whose kindergarten is supported by Humana People to People China. In addition, toys and books left unsold will be donated to the Mutiangongyi charity foundation to support the building of libraries and activity rooms in kindergartens in rural areas.

The Charity Bazaar trains students in economic thinking and improves their communication skills, in addition to fostering in them a sense of philanthropy and social responsibility. Students, in return, warm up this cold winter by taking action and devoting themselves. Thus, the Charity Bazaar instills in all Ivy students the value of love and the true meaning of kindness and beauty.

What’s Next?

Progress Beyond the Charity Bazaar

Love warms up the winter.

Following the start of the new year, the XiaoJuDeng Children Rehabilitation Center received our donation of 12,009 yuan and aims to use this gift to improve children’s diets and center facilities.

Additionally, all toys left unsold at the Charity Bazaar were distributed to each child in the rehabilitation center, inciting many happy and smiling faces.

Furthermore, the six cases of winter coats collected during the Charity Bazaar were sent, via “Humana People to People China”, to children at the Poverty Village Kindergarten in Canglan County in Pu’er City, Yunnan.

Each piece of clothing carries with it the care and blessings of Ivy Academy Sanlitun’s students and parents, sending a special warmth to children living in remote mountainous areas this cold winter.

As inherent in Ivy’s values, we strive to instill in each student the courage to inspire change. The essence of courage lies with small acts of kindness carried out daily in care for those around us. We witness this courage and power of change within the Ivy community each day. Our parents, students, and Ivy staff members each remain inspired by this courage to care to take action.
