Elementary Education

Maryville University’s School of Education prepares its students to be reflective teachers committed to one of the most critical jobs in a democracy. Maryville’s Elementary Education program, the school’s largest, prepares its teacher to work in urban, suburban and rural settings and exposure to different cultures through field placements and some of its award-winning assignments.

The elementary education program at Maryville prepares students to teach children in grades 1-6. Classes, field experiences, an area of concentration and a general education contribute to a broad-based elementary teacher preparation program. Five options are available within the elementary education area: B.A. in elementary education, B.A. in elementary/early childhood, and 3/2 programs in elementary/early childhood, elementary/English and elementary/psychology. All options involve extensive experiences in partner schools.

Maryville’s School of Education has been recognized for its work at the elementary and early childhood level by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, various local school districts and as part of John Goodland’s National Network for Educational Renewal. In addition, it has a longstanding history of strong partnerships with area school districts.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have high school diploma; A high school grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Maryville University requires that students provide proof of English proficiency for study at the University. The following are acceptable means of providing proof of English proficiency: TOEFL: 69 overall with no sub score lower than 15, or IELTS: 6.0 with no sub score lower than 5, or DET: 40, or PTE ACADEMIC: 47, or ELS Center: Level 112 completed with a 2.5 grade or better, or U.S. University/College Study: English Composition 104 equivalent with a “C” grade or better. English for non-native speakers does not qualify, or A Level: 1 “A” grade or better in English or 3 “B” grades or better in subjects other than Math
