在这里学什么?Our MSc Historical Research (Economic and Social History) is designed specifically as training for the 1+3 funded PhD studentships in the ESRC Doctoral Training Programme. This specialist Master's degree will give you the advanced conceptual, theoretical and practical skills you need to undertake historical research, particularly statistical analysis, at an advanced level, professionally or for doctoral research.
The programme will equip you with an awareness of contemporary historical practice and an understanding of the methodologies used in the analysis and interpretation of historical documents and other primary and secondary source material.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is an integral part of your university studies and usually consists of a combination of coursework and examinations, although this will vary from course to course - on some of our courses, assessment is entirely by coursework. The methods of assessment on this course are specified below under 'Methods of assessment on this course'. You will need to allow time to complete coursework and prepare for exams.
CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY
Graduates can pursue careers in research and archiving, museums and galleries, education, or journalism. Possible professions include researcher, archivist, or journalist. This degree will also provide graduates with the skills to undertake historical research at PhD level as well as professionally and independently. It may also be useful in becoming a higher education lecturer, museum education officer, or Civil Service administrator.

To study a Master's degree that requires a UK undergraduate degree with a 2:1 classification, they will typically need to have one of the following: a Bachelor's degree (Xueshi) from a 211, 985 or top national university with an overall average grade of 75%; a Bachelor's degree from a national university with an overall average grade of 80%; a Bachelor's degree from a high-ranking private university with an overall average grade of 80%; a Master's degree with an overall average grade of 70%. If they do not meet these criteria, they can apply for Birkbeck’s International Foundation Programme, which acts as a bridge between undergraduate and postgraduate study, preparing students to study a Master’s degree in the UK.
