专业概况

在这里学什么？ This programme will be an Institute of Physics (IoP) accredited MSci in Physics comprising of four years full time study. Theprogramme covers the whole of the "core of Physics" as specified by the IoP in the compulsory modules and is structured toallow for increasing module choice in the first, second, third and fifth years of study. The fourth year of study will normally be conducted at a external industrial stakeholder. A total equivalent to 120 credits of study should be completed during each of years 1, 2, 3 and 5 and a total full time equivalent of between the nominal 22 weeks of study and 1.0 FTE should normally be undertaken during the placement year. Progress during the placement year will be monitored and lead to a pass/fail progression to year 5. Failure to pass the placement year will result in automatic transfer to the standard MSci degree option (without placement year qualification), and failure of the placement year will remain on the student transcript. Assessment related to the placement year will take place during year 4 (zero credit module). There will be an elective in the 4th year where the placement year work could be written up as a 30 credit independent project module. Students failing the placement year, and being demoted, will be required to take a 30 or 45 credit independent project as part of their final year of the F303 programme to satisfy IoP accreditation and credit requirements. An MSci graduate from this programme should be able to enter further training at PhD level or enter any of a number of other careers using the transferable skills gained during their studies and the placement year. NOTE: The IoP accreditation requires that students undertake an independent project during their studies. If in retrospect it is deemed that a student who has successfully completed a placement has not worked independently on a problem that satisfies the IoP requirement, then that student will be required to take a 45 credit independent project in their final year of study, instead of a 30 credit one. This may happen in exceptional circumstances and is not the normal expectation for students on this programme.
