Delivered in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Management, the MSc Financial Management provides the knowledge and skills to give you a significant edge in this competitive global finance sector, with emphasis on the sector internationally, with special emphasis on Singapore and Asia.

The MSc Financial Management gives students a comprehensive and critical knowledge of corporate finance. It also teaches how to interpret and analyse financial statements, how to value securities and businesses as well as how to apply a wide range of financial modelling techniques.

Students will also gain critical understanding of international financial markets, including foreign exchange markets, private equity, venture capital and Islamic financial markets. This programme is taught by Birmingham Business School faculty at Singapore Institute of Management. The range of knowledge and skills it develops are in high demand in banks, insurance companies, stock broking firms and other industries in the finance sector. They are also in high demand in the treasury departments of many regional and multinational companies. The overall aim of the programme is to produce responsible financial management specialists who will be able to contribute to these organisations and craft a career in the sector.

The programme is innovative and contemporary, covering topics on financial technology, data analytics, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) financing as well as international cash and liquidity management. The contemporaneousness of the programme is key in ensuring graduates are industry ready for the finance sector globally and in South East Asia.

Careers and Development

Graduates may find themselves taking a major step towards developing an international or strategic focus within their careers. While some will accelerate their careers with existing employers, others can create potential for change. Major directions include jobs in business analysis and development, banking, management and strategy consulting, corporate finance and investment, human resource management and marketing.
