专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Biomedical Science MSci is a continuous, integrated four-year programme, aimed at students interested in science and research. It provides enhanced experience and skills transferable to employment or further study, and equipping students to apply for PhD courses or research posts in industry. In addition, the generalist research skills gained, in addition to the advanced science, will be advantageous for many non-science careers.

Our curriculum offers flexibility to better prepare students interested in pursuing careers in both healthcare and medicine.

Teaching is delivered through a variety of methods, including lectures and laboratory practicals, tutorials (including scenario-based learning), self-directed learning schemes, and computer-assisted learning programmes.

Course structure

You will cover the same range of topics as the first two years of the Medicine MBBS (5 year) programme, but in less detail. Your study will be contextualised to physiology teaching within the Biomedical Science curriculum.

In year 4, the MSci integrates a year of master’s level study designed for students who plan to have a career in the research field, or extend their experience of laboratory-based biomedical science. A highlight of this is the extended final year research project, which is designed to help you to develop more advanced practical and research skills that are required for a research career.

There is also a 15 credit Research Proposal Module, which provides training in the writing of a research project proposal and associated lab safety. The research proposal will enable the students to clearly demonstrate that they have the relevant skills to design, present and interpret their study.

Students are able to move between the BSc and MSci programmes at the end of Year 2, depending on academic criteria and capacity.

Careers

Biomedical science continues to provide a wide range of career opportunities in both the UK and overseas. You may choose to undertake research within a medical or biomedical science discipline or opt for clinical diagnostic laboratory work, forensic medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, clinical trials coordination, biomedical product marketing, or technology transfer and product licensing.

The MSci Biomedical Science will provide enhanced experience and skills transferable to employment or further study, equipping you to apply for PhD courses or research posts in industry. The generalist research skills you will gain alongside the advanced science will be advantageous for many non-science careers.

为来自中国的学生设计 Subjects must include one science subject. General studies and Key skills not accepted.A levels must be completed within two years, although modular re-sits will be considered. Accepted science subjects include Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology, Physics and Psychology.
