专业概况

在这里学什么？

Graduate students in the clinical mental health counseling program develop the foundational knowledge and skills to provide effective clinical services to a variety of diverse populations. As a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), our students can look forward to coursework and field experiences that meet the highest training standards of the counseling profession. Successful graduates of our program are eligible for initial licensure as counselors in Kentucky, Ohio, and a number of additional states.

What You Can Do

A graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling, together with the requisite post-master’s experience and licensure, allows one to provide counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults in community and agency settings. One of the benefits of a degree in clinical mental health counseling is that graduates are not only equipped to help individuals navigate normal life challenges (e.g., bereavement, relationship problems), but also help those who are struggling with more severe interpersonal and mental health difficulties (e.g., major depression disorder, social anxiety disorder).

Beyond The Classroom

In addition to training well-prepared counselors, the clinical mental health counseling program aims to create a local community of students and professors who are committed to supporting each other in their professional development.

As one example, the counseling program has an active chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (Nu Kappa), the international counseling honor society. This organization connects students and faculty through both professional development and social networking opportunities throughout the year. For those students who are interested in pursuing doctoral-level work, the faculty also provides opportunity for students to participate in research and professional conference presentations.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree at a regionally accredited institution with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. English language requirement: TOEFL scores must meet a minimum standard score of 550 on the paper version, 213 of the computer-based version, or 79 on the internet based (iBT) version. Applicants submitting the IELTS must achieve a 6.5 on the general band portion.
