This interdisciplinary major draws on linguistics, psychology, and physiology to explore normal communication processes and the nature of communication disorders. The undergraduate degree integrates liberal arts courses with theoretical and hands-on aspects of communicative sciences and disorders to teach students how we communicate and how to intervene in both the young and old.
As a Communicative Sciences and Disorders (CSD) major, you'll have access to a wealth of enriching opportunities:
- Through individualized advising, you can tailor your course work to fit your needs and interests.
- Our Anatomy and Physiology class includes a cadaver lab at NYU Langone Medical Center.
- You can study abroad at one of 13 global sites around the world. At the London site, we offer Contemporary Issues in Health Services in the UK: An Experiential Approach (4 credits), which integrates seminar class meetings and site visits to clinical facilities in London.
- You can observe sessions in our state-of-the-art on-campus clinic that serves infants, children, and adults with communication disorders.
- You can participate in activities through our chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, including traveling to DC to speak with Congressional representatives and organizing fundraisers for organizations that support individuals with disabilities.
Career Outcomes:
You'll graduate prepared for a variety of pathways upon graduation. Some may require additional schooling or training, while others allow you to enter the workforce directly.
