专业概况

Over the past two decades, the event industry has undergone a period of strong growth: as the industry has matured, the need for a specialized, skilled workforce has become increasingly pronounced. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the occupation of ‘meeting, convention and event planner’ will see a higher than average growth of 10% by 2024. Careers in event management are varied and multi-faceted, and event professionals are employed in a range of sectors: examples are hospitality, the arts, large corporations, associations and not-for-profits. The event industry offers careers in meetings and conventions; festivals, weddings and social events; corporate hospitality; trade shows and exhibitions; sporting events and fundraising events. The MS in Event Management at the NYUSPS Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality delivers a cutting-edge curriculum, focused on the various skills event managers need in a fast-growing, globalized industry. It prepares students for event management roles across private, public and not-for-profit organizations.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Pre-semester

A pre-semester, online course introduces you to the event sector. Students complete this course in the first seven weeks of the semester.

Elective Courses

Students take five elective courses. They can choose courses freely from three tracks: Business development, sport event management and event operations.

Capstone

For their capstone, students complete a consulting project for an industry partner, or write an individual thesis.

Core Curriculum

Courses in the core curriculum provide a solid foundation of business and research analytics courses, applied to event planning, design and management.

Internship

The internship course allows students to gain valuable work experience in the event sector.
