专业概况

Develop a broad knowledge of biological systems, and skills that can lead to a range of careers in the biosciences and beyond.

Of all our biosciences courses, biology offers the broadest range of subjects. You’ll gain a wide range of skills and knowledge by learning about life on Earth across all levels. This will give you a broad foundation in biology in areas such as paleontology, ecology, biodiversity, genetics, evolution, cell biology and microbiology.

You will graduate with a solid foundation for further study or graduate roles where a broader knowledge of biosciences is needed. The academic and key skills you develop will also prepare you for a wide range of other careers.

The Master of Biology (MBiol) provides you with the same core skills and knowledge as the BSc but with a greater exposure to research and advanced practical techniques. You’ll study master's-level units and carry out a major research project, giving you ideal preparation for postgraduate study or a career in research.

Placement

This is the four-year version of the course. We also offer it with a placement year, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of your degree.

Put your learning into practice

Alongside teaching, our academics carry out research, from cell and molecular biology, microbiology, neurobiology to evolutionary and plant biology. You’ll contribute to this research and learn how biosciences is applied to real-world problems when you work on your own research project.
