专业概况
在这里学什么?Mental illness places a huge burden on individuals, their families and society more widely. Be part of the uncovering of its causes, so we can better treat it. This new course for 2021 will provide you with interdisciplinary training integrating social, developmental, neuroscientific and genetic approaches to understanding psychiatric disorders and will include hands-on training in a range of advanced methods for studying the causes and consequence of mental illness.

Structure
In the first semester, you will learn about the signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and the course and treatment of different psychiatric disorders in children and adults at the Centre for Psychiatry. Next, you will develop the skills required to conduct interdisciplinary, translational research in mental health working with experts in translational research in the Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology.
In the second semester, you will learn more on each of these perspectives in three methods modules exploring the social, developmental, neuroscientific and genetic aspects of mental health and the complex interplay between these factors. You will get the opportunity to learn advanced methods in mental health with hands-on training in a choice of different methods including observation, interviews, Electroencephalography (EEG), psychophysiology, behavioural genetics and genomics and cognitive and behavioural neuroscience using human and animal approaches.
In the third and final semester, you will use what you have learned to develop and conduct an empirical research project. This is an integral part of this programme as it will help you develop the skills required to progress onto further academic or applied research. During the research project you will be supervised by one of our academics.
Teaching
Queen Mary is home to the research-intensive Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology, whose academics have developed and part-teach the programme. The department has extensive expertise in the social and biological basis of behaviour with leading researchers in social psychology, genetics and neuroscience and the application of these methods to understanding psychiatric disorders. You will also be taught by academics the Centre for Psychiatry, a world leading institution in research on cultural, social and environmental aspects of public mental health research.
