Why Study Political Science at Le Moyne College?

You have rights, opinions, a voice – and a vote. What better reason to study political science? Today’s political environment calls for thoughtful, reflective, and engaged citizens. As a political science major at Le Moyne, you will discover how power and resources are allocated. You will engage in frank debates about critical issues such as health care, the environment, and civil rights. And you will grapple with tough philosophical questions about the nature of citizenship. In keeping with Le Moyne’s Jesuit heritage and our nation’s democratic creed, you will develop critical thinking and decision-making skills, become aware of the role of power in political and private life, and gain a better understanding of your personal values. Program Highlights

As a political science major at Le Moyne, you will be educated in the political concerns of society and encouraged to become active, engaged participants in democracy. Inspired by the Jesuit mission to educate students for the service of others, the political science major puts politics at the heart of social justice. The political science major at Le Moyne includes:

• A citizenship activism theme that runs throughout the curriculum
• Interdisciplinary courses that demonstrate the pervasiveness of politics
• Topical courses that link contemporary issues with academic literature
• Five student clubs that encourage student activism outside of class
• Student-centered courses and small classes

Careers

Political science majors at Le Moyne pursue careers in government service, law, and politics. The skills they develop through this major prepare them for a number of other careers:

• Data analysis is valuable in government work, public policy, data analytics, marketing, and sales
• Qualitative analysis and critical thinking are key to successful leadership roles in commercial and non-profit sectors
• Study of social relations and power dynamics is useful in a variety of areas, including NGOs, non-profits, and international relations
• Knowledge about political science is excellent preparation for a career in journalism
