A navigation system senses a traffic jam and directs the driver to another route, saving him valuable time. A drone hovers above over a wheat field, providing a farmer with critical information about her crops. A credit card detects suspicious purchases and sends an alert to the owner’s cellphone. All of this – and so much more – is possible because of computer science. As a computer science student at Le Moyne, you will learn to design and implement software, develop effective ways to resolve computing problems, and devise new ways to use computational devices. Hands-on experience, personal interaction with engaged faculty members, and weekly fundamental laboratory sessions are among the highlights of this program. We will teach you how to change our digital landscape by balancing the theoretical and practical aspects of this discipline within a strong liberal arts framework. You will be part of a small close knit community with lots of interaction with faculty members. Our introductory course has weekly laboratory sessions taught by faculty, where you will get hands-on experience with topics learned in the classroom. Our courses emphasize the fundamental concepts of computer science, treating today's popular languages, tools, and systems as current examples of these concepts.

Careers

Computer science is one of the hottest fields in the current economy. While our graduates first job focuses on areas like database engineering, programming, network management, software testing, and software design, our majors pursue a range of careers with the skills they gain. These career paths include:

Quantitative reasoning: leads to data analytics, as well as marketing and sales

• Technical writing: students who “speak the language” can work in web design and technical writing
• Cyber security: students who understand networks and application development can work in government or industry in this emerging field
