Why study Psychology at Le Moyne?

As a psychology major, you’ll explore all things about the brain and our behaviors. You’ll ask yourself big questions, delve into research and begin to understand the growing literature concerning our emotional, cognitive, and social lives. You’ll work alongside faculty who are both practitioners and scholars. You’ll participate in seminars with respected researchers in varying psychological fields. You may even have the opportunity to complete your own original research that is presented at a regional or national conference. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a year-long internship that will help you explore your interests. The rigor of your curriculum will make you a competitive applicant for various graduate programs across the country. If you want to investigate the behaviors and experiences that help make us human, you’ll love the offerings of the psychology program.

The psychology department has partnered with the theatre arts program to offer students the option of a dual major in psychology and theatre.

Program Highlights

• Students have the opportunity to become familiar with the basic methods and theories utilized to study the behavior of humans and animals
• Through lecture, discussion, laboratory, and field experiences, students receive a comprehensive overview of the various approaches employed by psychologists while also pursuing their specific interests in greater depth
• Students work with faculty who broadly represent the discipline, with expertise from many different areas of psychology
• Students will develop a solid understanding of theoretical and empirical aspects of psychology that will prepare them for the future
• Students will be able to use literature and scientific approaches to investigating behavior and evaluating psychological theories

Careers

Our goal is for students to develop a solid understanding of the theoretical and empirical aspects of Psychology. This understanding will prepare students for the future, regardless of whether the future entails immediate employment or entry into a graduate school program. Our students are trained to write as professional psychologists and to apply the ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA). Le Moyne Psychology graduates have held jobs in such fields as:
