Today’s world needs nimble thinkers who can grasp complex ideas and communicate effectively. As an English major at Le Moyne, you’ll engage your heart, mind, and imagination in great works of literature. You’ll also refine your writing skills, deepen your ability to conduct research, and learn to develop informed, articulate points of view. Whether you concentrate in literature or creative writing, Le Moyne’s English Department will help you cultivate your passion and curiosity.

Students earning teacher certification fulfill the core requirements as described above but follow one of the programs of study detailed below. Note that all five tracks require one advanced writing course and one media literacy elective. Any upper-division course in writing satisfies the requirement for the advanced writing course, but students are encouraged to make their selection according to their teaching interests—e.g., CRW 385 Creative Writing Workshop for those who wish to prepare themselves to teach creative writing; CMM 274 Reporting and Writing for those who anticipate teaching journalism classes or advising their school newspaper. The media literacy elective is fulfilled by CMM 250 Mass Media and Society or one of the film studies courses offered by the English Department. This summary mainly focuses on M.S.T. in Dual Adolescent and Special Education, Grades 7-12.
